BRACEBRIDGE, ON – Residents of Parry Sound-Muskoka can have their say about the government’s new labour legislation and planned increase in minimum wage, said Norm Miller, MPP.
The Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs has hearings on Bill 148 scheduled for the week of July 10th in Thunder Bay, North Bay, Ottawa, Kingston and Windsor-Essex and in London, Kitchener-Waterloo, Niagara, Hamilton and Toronto the week of July 17th.
“Unfortunately these hearings are mostly in urban areas and they are during the busy season for the many tourism businesses in our area,” said Miller. “But even though the committee is not coming to Parry Sound-Muskoka, I encourage individuals, small business owners and non-profit organizations to take this opportunity to share their thoughts about the government’s labour legislation and the planned increase in the minimum wage.”
The deadline to apply to make a presentation to the committee during the first week of hearings is July 4th and for the second week of hearings the deadline to apply is July 10th. Presenters can appear in person or by telephone and people can also send a written submission to the clerk of the committee.
