Ontario continues consultations on regional government review

April 1st, 2019

QUEEN’S PARK, TORONTO: The Ontario Government is providing another opportunity for local input on how to improve governance, decision-making and service delivery in regional municipalities including the District of Muskoka.

Today Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Steve Clark announced that starting on April 3, those who live or work in one of the review areas can register online to make a presentation to Special Advisors Mickael Fenn and Ken Seiling.

“Our government wants to make sure that the experience of real people is front of mind in every decision we make,” said Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP Norman Miller. “These consultations will ensure that happens in this review of regional government so I encourage anyone living or working in Muskoka to share their ideas and comments on the role of regional government.”

On January 15, 2019, Minister Clark appointed Michael Fenn and Ken Seiling as Special Advisors to lead a review of regional government in Ontario. The review includes Ontario’s eight regional municipalities (Halton, York, Durham, Waterloo, Niagara, Peel, Muskoka District, and Oxford County), the County of Simcoe, and their lower-tier municipalities.

“Our government is working for all Ontarians. We are committed to providing taxpayers with efficient and effective service delivery that shows respect for their tax dollars,” said Minister Clark. “It’s important to me that the people who live, work and spend time in the municipalities covered by the review can share their thoughts on how we can improve regional governance.”

Online registration opens on April 3, 2019. More details are available at www.Ontario.ca/regionalgovernment. Meetings will be held in the eight regional municipalities covered by the review (Halton, York, Durham, Waterloo, Niagara, Peel, Muskoka District, and Oxford County) and in Simcoe County.Individuals can also submit their comments through the online survey, which is open until May 21, 2019.

Ken Seiling was first elected as the Chair of Waterloo Region in 1985. He retired from this role on November 30, 2018.
